“Prisoners clashed over a blanket, one person injured.”

Shimla 24/11/2024 – On Saturday afternoon, a fight broke out between two inmates over a blanket at the Kaithu Jail in Shimla. One of the inmates, identified as Gaurav, was injured in the incident and has been taken to IGMC Hospital for treatment, where he is being treated for a serious injury to his right eye.

Another inmate, Dhruv, has been accused of attacking Gaurav. Following the incident, the prison administration informed the Baluganj police station, and an investigator was sent to IGMC to follow up on Gaurav’s treatment.

The altercation occurred when both inmates were returning to their barracks after a break, resulting in a dispute over the blanket.

Reports suggest that Dhruv attacked Gaurav, causing significant injury to his right eye. Gaurav received immediate medical attention, and his condition is said to be serious.

Both Dhruv and Gaurav are undertrial prisoners involved in cases related to drug offenses. Dhruv has been in Kaithu Jail since October 28, 2024, while Gaurav has been there since August 20.

Gaurav is alleged to have been involved in drug trafficking, and Dhruv also faces charges related to drug possession. Shimla DSP Manvendra Thakur confirmed the incident and stated that the police have initiated further investigations.
