Himachal Weather Alert

Shimla 24/11/2024 – “Weather conditions have changed in the higher regions of Himachal Pradesh. Following the weather departmet’s forecast, snowfall began in Rohtang and other high mountainous areas Saturday afternoon.

Snowfall was recorded in Atal Tunnel Rohtang, Kokser Rohtang Pass, Kunzum Pass, Baralacha, and the peaks of the CB range.

The peaks were covered in white snow in no time. This winter season’s first snowfall was recorded in the residential areas of Lahaul Valley and Atal Tunnel Rohtang.

Light snowfall was also reported in Gulaba. Farmers, gardeners, and tourism operators in the valley are viewing the change in weather as a sign of good snowfall to come.

The change in weather has increased the cold wave in the valley. Meanwhile, the weather shifted in Chamba district Saturday afternoon. Snowfall occurred on the upper peaks of the tribal area of Pangi in Chamba district.

After four to five centimeters of snow fell here, the cold increased in lower regions as well. Suddenly, dark clouds covered the sky in the afternoon, increasing the cold even further.

The Meteorological Center in Shimla has issued a forecast for rain and snowfall in the higher areas of Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti districts today. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature has been recorded below zero in four locations in the state.

Light fog has been recorded in Bilaspur. In other parts, clear weather is forecast for the coming seven days. There will be no major changes in the minimum and maximum temperatures in many parts of the state during the next three days.

After that, there will be a drop of about 2 degrees Celsius in some parts of the state over the next two days. Sunny weather has been reported in Shimla today.

The department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in Bilaspur and Sundernagar during morning and evening hours. The Lahaul-Spiti police have become alert regarding the snowfall occurring near Atal Tunnel Rohtang.

Lahaul police have advised locals and tourists not to travel amidst the snow. SP Mayank Chaudhary stated that snowfall is happening in Sissu of Lahaul and in the areas of Atal Tunnel and Kokser.

He urged not to undertake unnecessary journeys in snow-affected areas. Those who need to travel should equip their vehicles with snow chains and winter tires.

The road conditions may be slippery due to accumulation of snow. In case of emergency, people should keep warm clothes, food, water, and a first-aid kit in their vehicles.

Additionally, they should regularly check weather forecasts and updates on road conditions. The SP advised keeping emergency contact numbers handy and ensuring that family or friends are informed about travel plans.”
