A golden opportunity for youth who have turned 18 to become voters

Jaunpur 24/11/2024 – “A voter registration awareness program was organized by the Electoral Literacy Club at Cooperative PG College, Mehranwa, as part of a special short revision campaign under the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative.”

The program aimed to inform students who will turn 18 by January 1, 2025, about registering their names on the voter list. Students were provided with Form 6 for voter registration and were guided to download the Voter Helpline app on their mobile devices. They also took a pledge to encourage others to become voters.

Dr. Raj Bahadur Yadav, NSS Coordinator from Purvanchal University, stated that voter awareness programs are being conducted across over a hundred colleges through the National Service Scheme. He urged students turning 18 to register as voters and motivate eligible youth in their families and communities to do the same.

Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh, the principal, encouraged students to take advantage of the special revision program to correct errors in the voter list, register names of those who have turned 18, and remove names of deceased or relocated individuals to maintain an accurate voter list. He emphasized the importance of registering all eligible voters, including new members of families.

Syed Mohammad Mustafa, the district SVEEP coordinator, announced that the last date to register names on the voter list is November 28. On November 24, BLOs (Booth Level Officers) will be available at polling stations from 10 AM to 4 PM to assist individuals in checking the voter list and applying for voter registration. Online applications can also be submitted via the Voter Portal or Voter Helpline app.

The event was managed by Dr. Sanjay Sharma, the ELC Coordinator, and attended by several faculty members and students from Cooperative PG College.
